The trail is being held over both May bank holiday weekends between Saturday 29th April and Monday 8th May 2023.

Each entrant will be issued with a laminated poster to attach on or near their scarecrow with details of the trail and their unique number on it.

Can I get any money to build a scarecrow?

Unfortunately there is no funding available in order to purchase materials.

Where can I get materials from to build a scarecrow?

A scarecrow can be built out of all sorts of materials such as old clothes, bedding, straw, dried leaves or anything else you can think of. You do not need to use any professional tools and you should be able to find materials around your house or a local charity shop.

What should I do with my scarecrow at the end of the trail?

Please try to reuse or recycle as much of your scarecrow as possible.

Can I view the scarecrows without building my own?

Of course! A map will be published at the end of April so you can see how many you can spot.

Where can I find the scarecrows?

There will be scarecrows all over Heptonstall and Slack. A map will be published nearer the time which will tell you the area where the scarecrows are so you can hunt them down. The map may not show the exact location of each scarecrow so you may have to hunt around a little bit.

How many scarecrows are there?

This will be confirmed at the end of April when all of the scarecrows have been submitted.

Will I need to enter any private property?

No.  All scarecrows should be viewed from the pavement. Please do not enter any private property unless invited to do so by the land holder.

How do I vote for my favourite scarecrow?

When the trail starts you will be able to vote either via this website or by heading to our Facebook page.

Is there a prize for the best scarecrow?

Yes! There will be prizes for the top three scarecrows as voted for by the public. There will also be a separate prize for the best scarecrow made by a community group.

More information on the facilities available around the village during the trail will follow soon. Watch this space.
